Description

Welcome to my Excel project keeping track of all the medals won in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This an extremely fun project for me and my students. The only homework they have is to . . . watch the Olympics!! What could be more fun that that???

In this project, students will build 2 spreadsheets, one to keep track of the overall medal count by country, see one of the thumbnails to see the part of the finished product, and the other just keeps track of the medals the USA Olympic team wins. We use formulas to keep a running total of the medals as they are won. The Beiging website provides updated totals each day. I taught this for the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018 and I can honestly say that this was one of the most enjoyable projects I've taught. My current students heard about it from previous students and specifically requested it.

Skills included in this project are borders, merge and center, addition formulas, filling down formulas, changing the font, size and color of words in cells, and learning all about rows, columns, cells and cell addresses. If this all sounds like gibberish to you, I promise it won't after you finish this unit.

My curriculum package includes step by step, easy to use lesson plans. No previous Excel experience in required. I hurt my back during the Sochi Olympics and had to be out for a week. My aide, who had no Excel experience, taught my lesson plans beautifully with no break in continuity of teaching. Her husband was amazed!! This package also includes a sample of part of the finished project, a grading rubric and requirements for the project to hand out to students.

I hope you will consider purchasing this project. I guarantee you will never look at the Olympics the same again!!! Go USA!

A buyer has brought to my attention that when you open the sample project, it opens to sheet 3 of the Excel workbook that is blank. I only used sheets 1 & 2 for the project. If you look at the bottom of the spreadsheet, you'll see sheet 1, sheet 2 and sheet 3. Click on sheets 1 & 2 to see the sample project. Sorry for the miscommunication.
