"Ponies Come Back" (Farm Animals, Trauma Relief, Sheet Music)

A day of unknown trauma, a wailing 2nd grader whom the office returned still wailing as they had an enormous load of problems.  Following the teacher’s plan as a substitute would not work for me.  Under the circumstances, singing and music were my only known recourse.  I asked the students for some songs and sang a couple of theirs plus this one, “Ponies Come Back,” which I wrote after my mother yelled one day, “The cows are out!!” (They were out.)

The chorus I believe is soothing: Ponies come back, ponies come here. Ponies save the day. Bring me some comfort. Take my fears away. Take my fears away…. So the second graders and I sang the chorus several times.  Luckily, on that day I was a half-day sub.

The verses follow a major key and the chorus a minor - a contrasting example if that is your objective.

The verses have a variety of problems a farmer’s wife might experience, from her perspective.  However, from the perspective of the active farm animals, the situations may be delightful and a reason for celebration.  The cows are out.  The dog is chasing sheep.  A skunk is sniffing chicks. The pigs are in the pond. However, the problems escalate as the safety of the farmer’s wife and her family are threatened. The hay is on fire.  The barn too.  The well is almost dry.  The farmer broke his leg. The family is feuding. The cat’s in the cradle.  A rat is in the cellar.  A tornado is coming. The horse is on the run.

The piano sheet music falls between the 2nd or beginning 3rd year of piano level.  The copyright follows the same standard as all copyrighted music.  Teachers may load the sheet music into a PPT, or print up lyrics only to distribute to students.
