RACER Writing Unit - Practice Pages and Guided Notes

The RACER Strategy teaches students how to respond to open-ended questions. This strategy reminds students to answer questions completely and cite evidence and examples from the text.

I’ve seen similar strategies (RACE), but I found this strategy and explanation the most helpful for students:

R – Restate the question to create a topic sentence

A – Answer the question completely

C – Cite evidence from the text to support your answer

E – elaborate/explain the evidence

R – restate the answer to create a closing sentence OR relate the answer to something in your own life

This packet teaches students exactly how to write each step of a RACER response. Each step includes multiple practice pages and notes to present to students. Teachers are also provided with ANSWER KEYS to show suggested answers.
