What educators are saying

This was an extremely helpful set of worksheets. I was out for a variety of reasons trainings/testing during the Reconstruction unit and this allowed my students to continue learning with a sub easily.

Description

In this primary source analysis activity on the Plans for Reconstruction. students engage with three different speeches and approaches to the Reconstruction Era - from President Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Thaddeus Stevens from the Radical Republicans of Congress. In this very Common Core focused lesson, students analyze how Reconstruction should move forward after the Civil War.

Students delve into President Lincoln's Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction to understand the Presidential plan for Reconstruction. Students then contrast that to President Andrew Johnson's own plan for the southern states. Finally, students understand the different motivations of the Radical Republicans for analyzing a speech made by Thaddeus Stevens, and the harsh plan they offered by the south.

Students complete a graphic organizer as they dissect each document, and conclude with an activity geared at placing each student in the shoes of the writer!

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom.
