    The SOS to Encode! Program uses the Simultaneous Oral Spelling strategy. The program utilizes Placement tests to determine the exact instruction needed for students and groups, Three levels of intensity and rates of instruction, Ongoing formative assessments to monitor progress, Multi-sensory phonics and encoding techniques, Developmentally scaffolded lessons, Instructional framework (Scope and Sequence) and a consistent lesson structure.

    This program introduces The “COPS” self-monitoring strategy, Decoding strategies, Encoding strategies (e.g. Finger tapping phonemes, Spelling Aloud, Simultaneous Oral Spelling, etc.).

    By the end of Part 1 of SOS to Encode!, students will be able to

    ❤️ Encode, decode, and spell:

    • CVC words,
    • closed syllables, and
    • consonant digraphs,

    ❤️ Check writing for correct sentence mechanics , and

    ❤️ Self-regulate mechanics.

    By the end of Part 2 of the SOS to Encode!, students will be able to

    ❤️ Encode, decode, and spell one-, two-, and three-syllable words with:

    • short vowels,
    • consonant digraphs,
    • double consonants (-ll, -ss, -zz, -ff),
    • initial consonant blends, &
    • final consonant blends,

    ❤️ Check writing for correct sentence mechanics, &

    ❤️ Self-regulate mechanics.

    By the end of Part 3 of the SOS to Encode!, students will be able to

    ❤️ Encode, decode, and spell one-, two-, and three-syllable words with:

    • final –ng and –nk,
    • three pronunciations of suffix –ed,
    • three syllable types (Open, Closed, Silent-e),
    • consonant digraphs (–ph, –ck), &
    • vowel pairs (oa, ai, ee, ay).

    ❤️ Check writing for correct sentence mechanics, &

    ❤️ Self-regulate mechanics.

    Through a structured, self-regulation technique with visual supports and mnemonic device, students will be able to review and edit writing for sentence mechanics, as well as, self-regulate mechanics during authentic writing experiences.
