STEAM Challenge #4: Design an Elf Trap- A Maker-space Problem-Solving Activity
- PDF
Description
Looking for a FUN, ENGAGING, and STANDARDS-BASED STEAM challenge? This challenge has students creating an elf trap out of RANDOM materials that students can bring in or that you have sitting around at home or in the classroom.
Students are told that they need to use the materials inside of a Mystery Box (just a cardboard box) to build the trap for the elf, which has a specific height and width. Students then must build their contraption to fit the elf inside. :)
The student task sheet, a brainstorming page, a cost sheet, and reflection questions are all included in this pack.
The materials list for this challenge are as follows:
- Pipe cleaners
- Popsicle sticks
- Wrapping Paper
- Ribbon or string
- Garland
- A clothes pin
- Scotch Tape
- Crayons/colored pencils/markers
- Scissors and a hole punch
Of course, you don't NEED to use these materials, but this is what I would suggest.
There is some prep involved in making sure everything is ready for this STEAM challenge, so you will want to give yourself some time to prepare.
There will be more STEAM Challenges coming soon, so keep checking back for more!
Enjoy!
