What educators are saying

I had been searching for a way to help my students write better sentences. I heard your podcast and discovered this fun and engaging resource to help my students. It has been a game changer! Thank you!
I used this with one of my REALLY weak students. She had a habit of being distracting, so I worked on a couple of sheets with her to be sure she understood the process. After that, she worked independently and stayed focused on the tasks!!

Description

Do any of your students struggle to write a complete sentence? What about being able to identify a fragment or a run-on? Or how about knowing how to combine ideas in two sentences into a single sentence? The reality is that so many of our students in upper elementary struggle to write at the sentence level… which impacts their reading and writing in a big way. This resource gives you a quick and easy sentence writing routine that will help your students learn how to improve their sentence writing ability.

We created a simple weekly routine that will help your students understand the rules of sentence structure and learn how to construct sentences confidently. And like all of our other literacy routines, it’s easy to implement and only takes a few minutes each day.

If you’ve been struggling to find enough time for grammar lessons or if you’ve been trying to find a more effective and engaging way to teach grammar to your students, this resource is the answer to all your sentence structure struggles.

If you're looking for a fun and engaging way to celebrate the holidays, check out our seasonal/holiday-themed variation of this routine.

HERE’S WHAT THE SENTENCE WRITING ROUTINE LOOKS LIKE:

Each week (40 total weeks included) your students will get a picture that they will use as inspiration to complete the following sentence writing tasks.

  • Monday: Build a Sentence
  • Tuesday: Write 4 Types of Sentences (Statement, Question, Command, Exclamation)
  • Wednesday: Find and Fix a Fragment
  • Thursday: Combine Sentences
  • Friday: Unscramble the Sentence

There are 40 total student worksheets included. You'll have just enough to get you through the entire school year!

Check out the preview to learn more about each of the daily sentence writing tasks.

WHAT'S INCLUDED WITH THIS RESOURCE?

  • Student Worksheet: Each week, you’ll print off a worksheet that has a picture and all the sentence writing tasks for each day of the week. Students will complete one section each day of the week. It’s quick and easy and doesn’t require a ton of prep.
  • Teacher Answer Key: We have provided a teacher answer key with possible answers. Most of the sentence writing tasks will have a variety of acceptable answers, but we wanted to give you some ideas of the types of responses you might expect from your students.
