Functional Stimuli for Cognitive Retraining: Short-Term Memory Stimuli
This task gives patients an opportunity to utilize compensatory strategies (i.e. memory strategies, metacognitive strategies, paraphrasing, etc.) to encode and recall functional information.
Information may be recalled immediately, with a delay, after an interruption, prospectively, etc.
Subjects:
- Five customizable pages (orientation, visitor log, staff names, precautions, and map directions)
- Health (when to call 911, medication safety, sleep hygiene, depression, etc.)
- Signs and symptoms of infection, blood clots, CVA, heart attack, heart failure, etc.
- Diet precautions (renal, diabetic, low sodium, etc.)
- Hip precautions
- Sternal precautions
- Spinal precautions
- Transfer safety
- Medical appointments
- Voicemails
- Supplies lists
- Grocery lists
- Recipe steps
- Return policy terms
- Map directions
- Biographical information
Minimal instructions are included to enable each SLP to utilize their own clinical style and allow use of current and ever-changing EBP strategies. Be creative in the use of these materials!
