What educators are saying

My enrichment students loved this digital breakout to practice their knowledge of simple machines. I loved that they had to also practice their reading comprehension when it came to the directions.
I used this as a review before our test. This was a great resource to help students review simple machines!

Description

LEVERage a series of digital puzzles to infuse learning about simple machines (or use the 8 reading passage slides as review). Students must avoid SCREWing up an answer or they won't be able to unlock all of the puzzles! WEDGE this lesson into your force and motion unit; simple machines are a crucial element to this physical science strand.

What's a digital breakout?

It is similar to an escape room but without the need for physical locks, is all about simple machines. In this resource, students will:

  • Learn about simple machines (8 slides of informational text for levers, pulleys, inclined planes, screws, wedges, and wheels and axles)
  • Solve 7 digital puzzles related to simple machines (a variety of puzzle types are included, from image puzzles, to ciphers, to demonstrating learned knowledge)
  • Use technology skills to complete the activities (entering text into Google Slides, Google Forms, rotating objects, clicking and dragging objects).
  • Use creative problem solving skills to decode the puzzles.
  • Complete follow-up activities to demonstrate subject mastery (printable, optional).

CONTENTS

  • Teacher instructions on how to use this resource, tips for success, and completed samples of every puzzle.
  • 8 slides of informational text about simple machines (inclined planes, levers, pulleys, screws, wedges, and wheels/axles).
