Description
This writing project includes a three page original story that students will first read or listen to. Students will then take the perspective of someone who lived through these spooky events described in the story, and tell about them in their own words.
This narrative/descriptive writing prompt is directly linked to Common Core Writing Standards and includes directions for the teacher, a three-page story for students, as well as a task sheet, and graphic organizers planning page. I tell my students that this is both a narrative, as they are writing from another person's perspective, while also requiring much attention to descriptions, therefore a descriptive/narrative writing project. :)
Students are completely engaged in this writing piece the minute they are finished reading the story of Fright, Maine.
When completed in my classroom, the entire writing process took 2 weeks, but this may vary based on grade level, student ability, and time spent on writing per day.
Also included with this is the compiled book we had published on Lulu. Once printed in hardcover form, students had the option to purchase this book, which boosted motivation immensely.
