Now THIS is how you get kids invested in tone! I was worried that my 8th graders might not be into the Facebook aspect since they primarily use other types of social media and tend to think Facebook is lame, but they immediately got right into the activity!
Description
I thought about making this product when I noticed my students struggling to understand author's tone. They were having a hard time with the standard (RL.6.4) (Determine the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone). In class I used a silly example from a Facebook status I remembered reading the day before, the class laughed and it clicked for them. This product has 24 multiple choice tone task cards that use Facebook updates. I teach middle school so a few of the status updates use "internet slang" (LOL, OMG, etc...)
