    2. Valentine's Day Printable Activities Pack

LOOSE PARTS HEARTS INVESTIGATION - BIG AND SMALL

Explore size and shape with this loose parts investigation. Print both the ‘big’ and the ‘small’ heart. Describe the shapes. Perhaps extend older children by asking ‘How are they similar?’ ‘How are they different?’ With younger children focus on the vocab ‘big’ and ‘small’. Why not investigate how many e.g. duplo bricks you can fit in each and then compare the amounts? Adapt for different ages by using smaller or larger loose parts. Why not involve a tool such as tweezers in the process to develop fine motor skills? For our youngest children these templates could also be used as a stimulus to sort small and big objects…e.g a table of objects with a small and big version of each and the children place the objects next to the appropriate heart.

    HEART NUMBERS MEMORY GAME

Memory game using numbers in hearts. Each child has their own board of a particular color. Children to take turns turning over cards to try to find the correct numbers in the correct color to win the game. Two versions of the game - 1-5 and 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. The number cards included within the game are made with a patterned tab style back to fold over before lamination. This makes for a sturdier product and means that when the card is face down you are unable to see what the number is.

FINE MOTOR CONTROL HEARTS - MARK MAKING, LOOSE PARTS, SCISSOR SKILLS

Develop fine motor control using these heart designs. Children could use a pencil to make marks along the dotted lines and colour in each of the sections of their finished art work. Equally, children could be provided with loose part materials in order to place objects along the dotted lines or within the different sections. Fingers or a tool such as tweezers could be used, both aiding the development of fine motor control. These sheets could also be adapted to practise scissor skills.

    COLOR MIXING EXPERIMENT SHEETS/DISPLAY

Color mixing experiment sheets with a heart theme. For example, paint the first heart white and the second red. Then mix the two colours together and paint the bottom heart in the resulting pink color. You may want to repeat this for a few different mixtures and make a ‘Color Mixing’ display.

MATCH THE HEART CARDS - PATTERNS, SHAPES, NUMBERS

Set of 32 cards. Use appropriate cards for your children in an invitation to play or adult led activity. These cards may be used in a number of ways. Placed facing up on a table, children can simply match up the pairs placing them next to each other or alternatively, they may want to collect them as they go. A further challenge could be a memory and turn taking game of ‘Picking up Pairs’. The cards are made with a tab which can be folded before lamination in order to strengthen the final product. This also means that when turned over, the pattern on the front can not be seen.

MATCH THE HEART SHEETS - PATTERNS, SHAPES, NUMBERS

Four different ‘Match the…’ sheets, each with a heart theme. Children need to focus and use observational skills to look closely at patterns, shapes and/or numbers to complete these fun activity sheets. Children can point to the answers to indicate them to you, draw their own lines to match the hearts or even cut and stick them onto another sheet of paper/card to match them accordingly.

HEARTS COUNTING PUZZLE/ACTIVITY/GAME + COLOR & COUNT version included

Why not set up an invitation to play using these heart puzzles? Select those appropriate for your children (1-20 available) and allow them to match the number with the corresponding number of hearts. Each pair has a different way of connecting as a puzzle for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt what the number looks like yet, but are beginning to say the numbers in order, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges. Once the puzzles are complete, why not line the numbers up in order and count together? If your children would enjoy a further game, leave out a number and see if they can spot which one is missing from the sequence. Puzzles could also be used as a fine motor control/counting activity if left uncut. Children could be given an appropriate number for their learning and encouraged to place objects on the hearts, counting as they go.

    MINDFULNESS HEART COLOURING SHEET

Engage your oldest children in a focus challenge with this mindfulness colouring sheet. Also leads to discussions surrounding descriptions of shape and size, comparative language and symmetry.

    HEART MOTIF MARK MAKING/DRAWING/WRITING SHEETS

Writing/drawing/mark making sheets with heart shape motif. Ideal for open ended Valentine’s Day activities.
