These 5 lessons allow students to investigate fractional pieces. Students practice noticing the fractional unit shaded as well as the unshaded pieces. This then leads to students recognizing the shaded plus the unshaded pieces represent the whole fraction. Students practice these skills using tape diagrams, number bonds, fraction strips, and real life examples.

This is a 16 day hands on unit taught to a deeper level of understanding hinged on conceptual understanding. This unit includes the SMART Notebook file which has 132 pages; many of which have pieces to be manipulated, guided notes for all lessons, homework pages for all lessons, exit tickets for all lessons, a mid unit preparation and final unit preparation document as well as the mid-unit assessment and final unit assessment.

These 4 lessons focus on the base knowledge of partitioning a whole into equal parts. The lessons follow the NYS Math Module Lessons exactly. The lessons are designed in a way that will allow the teacher to teach the lessons without the need of the actual module lesson plans.
**NOTE** Lesson 4 is a station centered lesson. The teacher WILL need to prepare the materials PRIOR to using the smartboard lesson.

Fraction of a Set on a SMART Board
This is a very simple two page Smartboard lesson for students who need to see a visual representation of a fraction of a set.
I use this lesson on chart paper as well as on the Smartboard.
I teach the lesson using the steps.
I ask the students to repeat the steps aloud.
This is always a good review and a good visual aid for students who are not quite ready for math sentences or for equations.
Some students need that extra acronym to remember the steps in the correct order.
