Description

So it is the end of the year. You're burnt out. The kids are burnt out. But you need to review for the Final Exams/End of Year Testing. Here is a great project for your students that will get them engaged and have them reviewing the material without the class getting bored with the same old examples.

In this project, students have just been hired as the new (Insert Subject Here) Teacher at their school! Now it is their job to teach the rest of the class what they need to know for the end of year tests. Students will work with a partner to come up with and teach a lesson to the rest of the class. Then after they have taught their lesson, the second half of their project is writing a reflection paper about what they have learned from teaching this lesson.

The BEST part is that YOU get to assign what topics they have to teach. So if each pair of students teaches a different important topic for the classes end of year review, you can easily cover 10+ topics during this project!

This document has the student instructions AND the grading rubric for the project. It goes through all of the expectations for the students and how they will be graded. Currently it is set up with "Calculus!" as the class they are teaching but the document can be edited to whichever class you would like to do the project. At the end there are blanks for the due date of the presentation and the due date of the reflection paper. When I did this project I gave each group a different presentation date and then their reflection was due one week from their presentation date.

I also made sure the presentations were in an order that made sense. So if Group 1 was teaching a topic that had Group 2's topic as a prerequisite, then Group 2 would present before Group 1. You can also have days where you teach in between days when the groups present. This whole project is VERY FLEXIBLE!

Each group is expected to include some form of assessment at the end of their presentation. Those assessments can be graded so that the rest of the class has some them to hold them accountable for the material as well to keep them focused and on task with their new teachers.
