What educators are saying

Great resource to use to practice previously learned skills. The students were engaged and were able to complete the activities with little to no difficulty.
After teaching K-2 for so many years, I was happy to find a resource that I can use for older students that will also help with state testing.

Description

These no prep word study games and worksheets are a hands on way for students to practice decoding multisyllabic words. The activities focus on multisyllabic words that have prefixes, suffixes, and base words. As students complete the affix worksheets and centers, they will become better at reading multisyllabic words, as well as have a better understanding of morphology - specifically, how prefixes and suffixes change the meaning of base words.

The prefix and suffix games and worksheets include:

  • a prefix chart and a suffix chart - the meaning and an example of common prefixes and suffixes
  • 10 hands on building words activities - Students manipulate prefix and suffix cards around a given base word to create new words.
  • 3 hands on breaking words apart activities - Students cut multisyllabic words apart into a prefix, base word, and suffix
  • 2 identifying prefix activities - a scavenger hunt and a maze activity focusing on prefixes
  • 2 identifying suffix activities - a scavenger hunt and maze activity focusing on suffixes
  • 3 base word mazes - students complete the maze by shading in all of the words that have a certain base word
  • grading rubric and answer keys

Help make decoding multisyllabic words less intimidating for your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students using these no prep worksheets and centers. These worksheets are more fun than typical worksheets, engaging students in a more interactive and hands on way. Use them for reading centers, word study centers, homework, morning work, independent practice, and more.
