Rose MacCulloch and Rosemary Dawson have taught in the primary grades for over 20 years, with a collective experience of over 40 years. They worked closely together as Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers to improve student reading and writing. During the course of their research project "Assessment Begins In Kindergarten", Rose and Rosemary worked with Damian Cooper to create a teacher-friendly, developmental continuum that combines the Ontario Achievement Chart with the 6-Traits of Writing on a per-term basis.
Universal design - what is good for one student is good for all students!
Rosemary and Rose worked with educational consultant Damian Cooper to develop the Primary Writing Continuum. It is used to assess primary writing at the end of each reporting period and provide consistency in writing instruction and assessment. Their work has been featured in Damian's book "Redefining Fair".
Rosemary has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology as well as a Bachelor of Education. She also has Specialists in Primary Education and in Primary-Junior Math. Rosemary has taught Grades 1-3 including three years as a rotary math teacher. Rose has a Masters of Education degree from San Jose State University. She has taught the Kindergarten Specialist course Part 1 and 2 for 7 years. Rose sat on the ETFO Early Years Standing Committee at the provincial level for 4 years.
