TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a classroom teacher for 30 years in Texas. I have taught most 7-12 grade mathematics courses over this time but my focus the past 15+ years has been Algebra 2 and Precalculus, both honors and regular classes. I have been a presenter for several professional development workshops at our Region Education Service Center as well as my local district. I have also worked as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an instructional materials review service. Through this job I helped create alignment reports for the TEKS for products in all 6-12 grade mathematics courses in Texas. I learned a lot about what it means to truly align to the TEKS and CCRS.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to combine traditional direct teaching with opportunities for discovery learning. I believe that both of these have a place in every mathematics classroom. I like very organized notes with built in guided practice and opportunities for collaboration amongst students. Remote learning has shown us all the need for digital resources and even though I am back in the face-to-face classroom, these will continue to be a part of my curriculum. Finally, but most importantly, I truly believe the key to being a great teacher is building relationships with your students. It doesn't matter how great the curriculum or your resources are if your students don't know that you care about them.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Helen I. Medley Award for Outstanding Mathematics Teacher, Texas Tech University, 2015

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Minor in Education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live in a small west Texas town with my husband. We have 3 grown children. I have taught in the same school district for all of my 30 years and it also happens to be the same school I attended for 12 years. Being in a small school, I am the only Algebra 2 and Precalculus teacher. I know the struggles of not having a team to collaborate with on content. TeachersPayTeachers has been a life saver for me and now I want to be able to share my own TEKS aligned resources with other teachers who may be in my same situation.
