I spent 10 years in the classroom at Eagle Valley High School in Gypsum, Colorado (Eagle County School District). I began teaching World and United States History. I then spent 9 years teaching Government and Economics. I created original curriculum for a Current Issues class. For 4 years, I took on teaching American Government in a lecture hall setting to give students at our relatively small school exposure to the college lecture experience. In my last 2 years I took over the Advanced Placement Government class as well where my students test scores proved to be very successful, with over 85% of my students scoring 3's, 4’s and 5’s. Additionally, I coordinated and guided 5 trips to Washington DC with students, including 3 Presidential Inaugurations.
I believe that Social Studies classes can be the most engaging classes in the school if teachers are able to make the content come alive through relevant and varied lesson plans.
