TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an ASL interpreter for over 22 years, and am nationally certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. On my linguistic journey, I wanted to share my passion for language and learning, and found myself teaching at the High School level. My students have inspired me with their enthusiasm, curiosity and motivation, and I have been having an amazing time teaching all four levels of High School (9th-12th grade; ASL I, II, III, IV).

MY TEACHING STYLE

ASL does not have a written form, as such, complete immersion and engagement with the language from Day One is the key to success in ASL acquisition. This means, my lessons and activities are: *Highly Immersive, *Require Students to have "Hands Up and Eyes Ready", *Pair Work and/or Group Work, *Engaging, Fun, and Purposeful Focused on the fundamentals (Still Fun!) Never "busy work"

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Languages are living museums. They embody a culture's values, history, and ways of perceiving the world; Each language peering through a different lens. Thus, learning a new language has the potential to open the minds of the student (no matter the age), allow students to think in completely new ways, and can open the door to unfamiliar cultures, different people and, hopefully, new friends. I would be thrilled for you to join me on this adventure! I'm also active on my Blog ASLterpandteach.com/blog ! Continue the conversation with me there!
