At 46 years of age, I have been a wife for 20 years, mom for 17 years, and middle school teacher for 14 years! I have taught every subject but my favorites are math and science. I also LOVE sharing ideas and teaching strategies with other teachers and have had many opportunities to do that over my career. I also have been published as a craft creator for a series of girl's Bible studies!
My teaching style is what I would call "modern vintage" - does that make any sense? I love figuring out how to modernize the great old school techniques that work. I am strict and have high expectations, but am super fun, creative and a real nerd in my classroom. I have high energy and believe that a love for learning is contagious, so I try to "infect" all my students with as much of that as I can. My classroom is my happy place, and I believe that is reflected in my teaching style.
During my first year teaching, I was nominated as the GA New Teacher of the Year. I was selected to be featured in the Video for Education series modeling Hanson, Silver and Strong Teaching Strategies. I have been honored numerous times by being asked to lead seminars for other teachers including teaching strategies in the math classroom, interactive student notebook implementation or instructing on multi-disciplinary units. I serve on my current school's committee for Metacognition - which has proven to be invaluable in keeping my abreast of new thinking and learning trends.
I graduated from Mississippi College with a bachelor's degree in Education K-8. I taught middle school for 7 years in Georgia and Michigan public school systems before becoming a stay at home mom for 11 years (my most important teaching job ever!). During that time, I "fed" my desire to teach by teaching women's and teen girl's Bible studies and by doing some public speaking in area churches and at regional Women's Ministry Conventions. I also spent that time working with a leading Christian author to develop creative activities and crafts for her Bible study series for young girls. After that time, I returned to the classroom where I have been for the last 7 years, again teaching middle school but this time in a Christian school environment.
Life long learning is a passion of mine and this Teacher Pay Teacher venture has been (and IS still) helping me to do that. I love to understand new things and expand my skill set, and have thoroughly enjoyed investigating and experimenting with preparing ideas for TpT. I hope anyone who visits my store will enjoy what they purchase and come back for more as I continue to expand my products!
