I have taught music at the introductory and intermediate levels to over 60 students in the past 7 years. The amazing thing is that it's been with a system I created for teaching music to people with developmental disabilities and improving retention of musical terms, musical notes, and melody with lyrics, which is easily transferable to elementary school aged children.
I mostly teach by color coded notes on the piano and guitar. In addition to teaching piano and guitar, I also teach percussion/drums, ukulele, and vocals (different warm-up and main activities). For me, it is a very hands on approach where I encourage students to participate along with me in every step of the way. I feel that if you make it fun for yourself, it will show, and inspire others to want to be a part of it. After all, positive energy is contagious!
