I have taught first grade, second grade, (a combination 1st/2nd one year...that was FUN!), and third grade. I have also taught a pull-out GT program 1st-4th for several years and remedial Reading classes for 3rd graders. I've been blessed with finding the perfect profession! Teaching has always been my passion and mission in life. I didn't find that out until I was in my mid-thirties. (Having a dyslexic son was one catalyst.) I homeschooled my children for a couple of years before I was led to go back to school and get my degree. Teaching is more than a "job". When I first started, I couldn't believe I actually got paid (albeit a pretty tiny amount) for doing something I love. I went from teaching into administration (kicking and screaming...well, sort of...) by default. Long story...but you can find it on my blog at leadjoyfully.com I found out that being a teacher and being a principal is so very similar. (Another long story!)
I love being a facilitator of learning. I set up the atmosphere /environment for acquiring knowledge and then push, prod, encourage, inspire by whatever style or method the student gets it. In other words, until the children (or adults) take quantum leaps into learning! Then, I follow them. Depending upon where they leap, I set up the environment for learning all over again. Over the years I have truly learned more from them than they have from me.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude but had to look up what that meant...HA! All my honors/awards go to the Lord. He gave me this gift. I endeavor to unwrap it and protect it as carefully as I can. I am in a new phase of life now. I am a recovering principal/teacher (i.e. retired and awaiting His next marching orders). Say a prayer for me! :) I know two things. I'm forever called to teach, and I will always be a champion for teachers.
I grew up in the mid-west but migrated to Texas by the time I started college. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in History/Elementary Education from the University of Arlington. I received my Master of Education degree in Administration from Tarleton State University.
I was married to my best friend for 20 years who between us have four grown children and three grandchildren. I'm recently widowed but continue to live full-time in a motorhome and work from here (and yes, I drive this big bus!). Blog: leadjoyfully.com Need to get in touch with me?
