The Literacy Cookbook: Introduction--Teaching is much like cooking. We want to prepare a satisfying meal or lesson for our learners; however, sometimes it is helpful to start with a recipe. Novice cooks and teachers can benefit from starting with a basic tool or structure and then make modifications to fit each cook’s style and the learners’ palates—which vary from year to year or class to class. With standards to meet and skills to learn, our students and their level of engagement must be addressed. The Literacy Cookbook attempts to provide tools and resources for any teacher/chef. While providing a basic set of tools and recipes, each resource is adaptable for various grade levels, lesson content, and pedagogical skill level. Please provide feedback to help me make the resources more user-friendly for both teachers and students. Thank you for trying my recipes in your kitchen or classroom.
