TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching with Comprehensible Input is a great idea! But what does that look like? What activities do you use? What does your classroom look like? What about elementary world language teachers? Well, come join me as I go on the journey of making it all comprehensible. I teach K-8th grade Spanish and have been using Comprehensible Input (with fidelity) since 2008. I have learned a lot and have a whole lot more to learn. I am an elementary and middle school Spanish teacher who is looking to share the highs and lows of teaching with comprehensible input. Check out my blog - MrsSpanish.com

MY TEACHING STYLE

Comprehensible Input teaching is a research based teaching method that is based on Stephen Krashen's research in second language acquisition. “Language is best taught when it is being used to transmit messages, not when it is explicitly taught for conscious learning.” “We acquire language when we understand what we hear and read when we understand what people are saying to us, not how they say it.” This means as a Comprehensible Input teacher, I strive to use engaging stories and compelling student-centered content in my classes of Kindergarteners through 8th graders. Now I want to share what I have learned in my materials. I strive to create materials that are easy for teachers to implement and are engaging to their students.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a mother of three that loves to watch Korean dramas and ANY baking reality competitions. I love the fall and Hallmark movies. I also hold out for the happy endings and read like a maniac during the summer. Don't ask me about second langauge aquisition and teaching methods based on that research unless you have an hour or two. :)
