I have pursued every available opportunity to teach at the school-age level, undergraduate and graduate levels. Over the years, I have designed and taught many courses relevant to (a) teaching physical education in elementary and secondary schools (teaching method courses), (b) history and philosophy in physical education, (c) several skills courses, (d) adapted physical education, and (e) research methodology. I have also focused my teaching in the areas of psychosocial determinants of physical activity in children, childhood obesity, health behavior theories, and pedagogy. Some of my achievements have been related to the development of several undergraduate and graduate courses including: (a) Assessment in physical education (undergraduate), (b) Research design and data analysis (graduate), and (c) Psychosocial determinants of physical activity among school-age children. By integrating innovative technology such as the analysis of movement through mobile devices, I have enhanced active learning among my students.
My teaching priorities are the practical implementation of pedagogical content knowledge, active learning, and evidence-based integration. Through my lesson content, students can reflect critically and discuss diverse course topics. Content is carefully drafted to combine empirical evidence and hands-on experiences that improve their ability to understand complex concepts. From my perspective, learning is a form of intellectual enlightenment and at the same time, a quest for the truth. I strive to cultivate a learning environment whereby students have a voice and can meaningfully contribute to everyone's learning. Culturally responsive teaching recognizes the strengths and contribution of all pupils and how their cultures, attitudes, behaviors, perceptions, languages, and traditions can enhance their academic experience.
