TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Forever lifted by people who think night and day about ways to raise the bar to advance learning opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and families.

Experience captioning educational sign language media on week nights, weekends, holidays, winter break, spring break and summer break for Deaf students and families = ).

MY TEACHING STYLE

Remarkable changes in attitudes towards learning and analyzing data show that sustainable growth over time for Hard of Hearing, Cochlear Implant users and Deaf students is attributed to instruction using ASL and English. Instruction using Simultaneous Communication (which is not a language, it is a system) did not yield the same results over time.

For parents and professionals serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, please note that instruction using ASL and English incorporates listening, spoken language, American Sign Language (ASL), reading and writing. ASL is not a spoken language.

Support is provided for all readers: DHH, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Cochlear Implant users, Special Needs, Hearing, students across grade levels and adults.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Voted most humorous in high school.

Received a certificate for Court Jester upon completion of 8 units of study in the Reading Recovery Training Program.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Most impactful educational experience in addition to every day serving students: How To Use the Video Camera in the Classroom, taught by #HallDavidson through a Los Angeles Unified School District Professional Development workshop.

Thankful for opportunities to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing readers with specially captioned sign language media for several decades after taking the workshop.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Helping Deaf readers understand print through sign language.

Sharing strategies with students, parents and colleagues to increase learning successes.

Love it when kids express “me know!” or “not yet learn” instead of “don’t know hard.”

Thankful for the support of so many hearing and Deaf signers over the years! Even though many of you ran the other way when you saw the video camera...chuckle!
