Sex Ed from an AASECT certified sex educator - Find More at Sexedmart.com |
I'm a sex educator certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), with over 17 years experience, specializing in healthy relationships and special education. I currently teach graduate and undergraduate classes at two universities, and continue developing materials for K-12. I also offer training, consultation, and more classroom materials through Sexpressions.com.
I try to offer materials for all teaching styles: PowerPoint lectures and pamphlets for more instructive classes, discussion and group-based activity kits where teens share their perspectives on issues like LGBTQ bullying and consent, and a middle-ground of SMART Board™ interactive lectures and lesson plans using mixed teaching and learning methods.
I received the 2013 First Tracks Award for Innovation in Sexology for my work making accessible resources for students on the autism spectrum. I was also a consultant and on-screen expert for a February 2013 CTV News Montreal special report discussing the difficulties Quebec teachers face without a curriculum or training from the government.
I am an instructor at McGill University in the Department of Educational Counselling and Psychology, as well as at Concordia University in Applied Human Sciences. I'm also a founding member of the Executive Board for the Sexual Health Network of Quebec (re-launched from the Planned Parenthood Chapter of Montreal in 2005), and a past member of the AASECT committee for certification in sexuality education. At one point, I was the president of the Association of Family Life Educators of Quebec.
In addition to a classic sex ed focus on anatomy, puberty, sexual health, and the prevention of STIs and pregnancy, I create resources to help teachers talk to parents or address more difficult but equally important topics such as healthy relationships, consent, LGBTQ issues, social media, and internet safety.
