I have pursued my passion as an educator through a number of venues through the years. In addition to teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels, I have coached forensics and founded a support program for immigrant students and their families. I managed an adolescent shelter (including its on-site school) for a while and was responsible for training the faculty to work effectively with high risk students. I have also worked for the Library of Congress' Teaching with Primary Sources project developing model curriculum for their master's level courses.
Active, modernized, engaging, creative, and eclectic.
Master Teacher - Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources, Center for Energy Security Model Law Developer, World Hunger Coalition Conference Speaker, Kansas Academy of Science Conference Speaker
I graduated from Colorado State University with a double major in biology and political science and a Colorado teaching license in secondary social studies. While working on my undergraduate degree, I took a semester abroad in Latin America to study revolutionary movements. I am currently completing my master's degree in social and global issues at Regis University with a certification in adolescent character development.
I have a keen interest in globalization, social justice, environmental ethics, and international law. As such, I have worked with a number of organizations, including the United Nations Foundation, to advance ethical policy development around the globe. In the process, I have been studying the impact of social psychology on the adoption of new attitudes and behaviors. Ultimately, my goal is to consistently apply sound social psychological practices to my curriculum in order to better facilitate character development in my students.
