Previous teaching experience: UNC-Chapel Hill (T.A.). Specializing in teaching Spanish to non-native speakers. Additional languages: French and Catalan. Translator and editor, specializing in translating literary novels and poetry collections from Spanish into English. English B.A. from Florida International University (French Minor) and M.A. in Comparative Literature (Spanish/French) from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Since I began teaching Spanish in North Carolina (1992), I specialized in teaching to non-speakers. My style includes a combination of grammar, reading, and conversation, with many cultural connections. I tie many of my resources to my native Spain, but I also create lessons focused on Latin American culture. It is very important to me that students learn to apply new language skills to realistic situations, but I also encourage them to use their Spanish for creative purposes. I try to incorporate culture, current events, and history into all my lessons, encouraging students' curiosity about Hispanic culture.
