TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am into my 13th year teaching for the 2017-2018 school year. I started my career as an educator teaching 7th grade World History at the Middle School level before moving to teaching at the High School level. This will be my 10th year teaching at the High School. As a High School educator I have taught American History, Non-Western Studies, Honors European History, World History, Honors and Regular Sociology, and Honors Psychology. For the 2017-2018 school year I am teaching: AP Psychology, Sociology, and Non-Western Studies at my High School.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I truly enjoy teaching. I am energetic and excited about teaching and it shows through the variety of styles I use in my classroom ranging from teacher-directed to student-directed methods. In each class period at least two (most of the time three) different methods are used in a 48 minute period. Since students have a diverse range of learning styles, using multiple teaching methods in a given period can reach a wider range of students that given class period. Methods: - simulations - debates - discussions - in-class projects - out-of-class projects - web activities (web quests/etc.) - lecture/notes - quantitative research - qualitative research - paired learning activity - group learning activity - student presentations - reading comprehension - video presentations - audio presentations - other

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I enjoy creating PowerPoint Presentations. Staff at the high school where I teach always joke with me about the time I spend developing PowerPoint's. What can I say.....it's fun! What you will realize about my PowerPoint's is that I like to keep them short and to the point. They are spaced out with text, pictures, graphs, maps, and charts on all pages. Most PPT's I create are 10 to 30 slides. I don't like to take up all class with notes and take my students into consideration in not wanting to take notes all period. Each PPT allows for time left to transition to an application activity to further increase knowledge and comprehension. All key people, key events, and key terms are highlighted in a different color to enable students while taking notes to highlight or underline those key terms to study. In addition Formative Assessments are another key component to my teaching style. In all my classes these type of assessments are used almost daily to allow me to understand my students level of mastery and to help me plan my future lessons.
