I've been teaching since 2000, and I love what I do! Teaching ESL is something I'm passionate about, and I love planning new lessons and activities to help my students learn. In the past, I've taught all grades from K-adult, but I especially enjoy teaching beginning ESL students in grades 6-8. In 2018, I gave up teaching middle school for the flexibility of adjunct teaching at community colleges. This allows me time to volunteer as a teacher, teacher trainer, and curriculum developer for non-profit ESL organizations and outreaches. I still love teaching my language learners of all levels; they're just a little older now!
When language is the problem, you must find other ways to communicate. My students are all very hands-on, and I am, too. We get bored quickly, so things are always moving in my class.
In 2014, I was honored to be invited to join a team from Eastern Michigan University, writing the K-12 curriculum for a school in China. I'm very excited about this opportunity and immensely enjoy the challenge. One of the things that I like the most is the fact that I get to challenge myself and contribute to a great cause, but at the same time, I am learning a lot from the more experienced team members. In 2015, I returned to China as the lead developer/teacher-trainer on a team teaching Chinese English language teachers how to differentiate their EFL instruction through active learning and workshop-based instructional strategies.

I have literally traveled around the globe teaching and learning. Having been to 17 different countries on five continents (South America, I'm coming your way eventually!), I have had the great privilege of learning from many different people and cultures. It is a wealth of experience that I love to share with my students, and having lived in other countries helps me identify with their struggles in coming to the USA for the first time.
