Context clues are one of the most important skills a reader can learn. We always tell our students to use context to figure something out, but we never teach them exactly how to use direct context clues to do it. Once I started teaching these clue words, my students made fantastic progress with their comprehension. These clues need to be specifically taught and repeatedly practiced until they become automatic. This video introduces the direct context clue word - "means" and how it works.
