One Way Ticket: Using Poetry to Analyze The Great Migration
Students listen to and read Langston Hughes' poem "One Way Ticket" to analyze the push factors and the process of The Great Migration. Students read a short bio of both men, then fill out an organizer comparing their objectives and strategies before analyzing a poem about the 2 men by Dudley Randall. Students retain the information well and good discussion is generated by the poem and an opinion question.

Cereal Box Biography Project - Black History Month or any biography
This is a Black History Biography project which required my students to create a new cereal based on the life on a famous African American. The students had to design a cereal box to tell the story of the person they chose. They had to include things like a cereal name that relates to the person, a picture of the person, a timeline of the person's life, character traits of the person, and a written report of the biography they read about the person. My own students had a blast with this project.

The Great Wall of China will come to life as your students recreate this ancient wonder out of paper! Virtual Field Trip to Southwest Asia and North Africa
Send your students on a virtual field trip to some of the most interesting places in SW Asia and N. Africa using Google Earth! I use these at the beginning of my social studies units to help generate interest in the area we will be studying. I usually upload the assignment into Google Classroom, then let them start exploring.
