Singing and playing this American Civil Rights song by Pete Seger allows students the opportunity to connect to "We Shall Overcome" in a meaningful way. These largely editable Google Slides offer students a change to sing the lyrics, read the sheet music, and play a variety of musical instruments including Orff/ xylophone/metallophone, Boomwhackers, woodblock and hand drum. This would be a great song at any point in the year, but is especially fantastic for MLK Day in January and Black History

MARTIN LUTHER KING UNIT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL
I have been teaching about MLK Jr. for over a decade. This unit I put together includes great links of his speeches, riots, his biography, etc.
I also included directions and a rubric for speeches I assign my kids to mirror his speech. This includes the kids having to show repetition, voice must be raised twice, they must use a metaphor....and they must have their own dream.
Very Effective!!
