What educators are saying

I love any science resource that incorporates the seasons and holidays! This was great! The students were engaged and loved that I let them eat candy canes afterwards.
My Director said we had to use curriculum related activities right up to the end. This fit in very nicely! Thank you!

    Description

An exciting Christmas themed mini-inquiry science lab! Teach and reinforce observation and inference skills in this fun easy to prep activity. Your students will love solving the mystery of the candy cane crime! Perfect for forensic units, inquiry units, and the holiday season.

    ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting mini-inquiry lab that uses candy canes! In this inquiry lab activity students read a short newspaper article about a candy cane criminal who is sneaking into Santa's Toy Shop and destroying candy canes. Next, students get to put their observation and inference skills to work to help the investigative team make observations and inferences about how six candy canes were destroyed. This activity is fun to do right before winter break!

This lab is easy to modify to fit the level of your students. It is readily adaptable for students who need more support and equally easy to modify for students who are ready for increased challenge.
