TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have over 25 years experience teaching art and gifted students at all levels and in many different settings. I have taught in public schools in urban and rural (reservation) settings, for home school groups, in a private school for gifted students, as well as in an institutional setting (detention center), and at summer arts camps. I also teach workshops for art educators and lead therapeutic art workshops for colleagues, seniors, and tourists.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Although each lesson is founded on the common core arts standards, standards of other disciplines are addressed as well. I am a strong proponent of student directed and project based learning. The arts in particular easily follow this individualized and differentiated approach to education because art is a personal expression of each student's thoughts and feelings. It touches all our learning styles and modalities: visual-spatial, tactile (kinesthetic), verbal (linguistic), auditory, mathematical, musical, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. I teach the art of seeing rather than copying, and address emotional intelligence in my art lessons for maximum expressiveness.
