TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am entering my 16th year of teaching. I currently teach Grade 9 Math, and Grade 7-12 Visual Arts. I love the challenges that middle school students bring to the room every day. It's a very special age to be a part of. They teach me so much.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am full of energy and fresh ideas. I love taking risks in the classroom - even when they don't pay off. To me, that's just part of the learning process. I am not afraid to fall on my face and I think it's healthy for my students to see me try and then try again, if things don't work out. I strive to make my lessons and activities as fun and engaging as possible. I like to incorporate hands-on activities whenever I can. I love using Math stations!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I received a Teaching Excellence Award in March 2020. It is given out based on nominations by fellow staff.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I teach in PEI, Canada and attended UPEI for my BEd. My undergrad was in Psychology and Sociology. I also completed my Masters of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. I am also a Certified Professional Coach (in Life and Wellness; ACC credentialed) and I help teachers move from feeling overwhelmed to relaxed so that they can have more work-life balance and create more time for themselves.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love teaching and only ever wanted to be a teacher, until about 2019 when I started to battle burnout. I worked through my burnout and got to the other side, and also became a Certified Professional Coach while I was on my journey. I know what it feels like to lose your joy for teaching and so I help teachers who are feeling exhausted to gain more time for themselves, feel more relaxed, and have more energy for all the areas of their lives. I am also a mom of 2 energetic boys. I have been happily married to my high school sweetheart since 2004. I love being in nature, reading, creating art and learning something new! I love TPT because I know how precious time is and I'm all about working smarter not harder, as I'm sure all of you are. Happy Teaching:)
