TEACHING EXPERIENCE

After serving as a teacher leader for nearly 10 years, Chae Ray became an Assistant Principal, and shortly after, a Director of ELA Curriculum and Achievement. Currently she is as a Director of Content and Coaching for Literacy for an education nonprofit. Chae received her B.A.in English from the University of Houston and her M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from Sam Houston State University. Chae is also an NBCT and a Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award winner. Since becoming certified, it has been her mission to support other educators of color to attain certification. In March 2022, she founded Let Freedom Read in hopes of spreading her love of literacy.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Close Reading is my bread and butter in my teaching. Allowing students to peel back layers of a complex text over time equips students with the tools necessary to build their stamina through literal understanding, analysis, and the ability to go beyond the text.
