I taught chemistry, biology, and general science for 23 years before becoming an Academic Coach. I'm also certified in physics. In 2006, I achieved my National Board Certification in AYA Science/ Chemistry, and renewed in 2016. During the past four years as an Academic Coach, I began facilitating a National Board candidate cohort. This began when the process was being newly revised, from 2013-2017. I learned a lot along the way--with the help of many friends. One of the products in my store is a book written by a non-profit group that was started by me and some friends: The Harrison County NBCT Facilitators and Friends. At least a part of the proceeds from this book are earmarked to pay for the work done by that non-profit. Other work I do as an Academic Coach is provide Professional Development in many topics; I hope this is a place where you can find resources you need Thank you for visiting my store!
I teach kids. That means whatever I can do to try to help them learn. It means that I continue to learn so I have more ideas for how to reach them. I'm mostly Constructivist. I like to empower students rather than have them depending on me. When I started teaching, I told the kids, "You can use my stapler, but put it back RIGHT HERE." That really didn't work that well among all the science experiments and active learning. Eventually that above quote morphed into this: "Mrs. Schneider, where's the stapler?" My answer, "This is a survival classroom, you find it!" That is not to say I was always messy or unorganized. I swing back and forth between controlled chaos and control. Did this profile really ask for a "teaching style?" LOL.
