Teaching with Jen Rece

I began my teaching career as a toddler and preschool teacher, which I greatly enjoyed. I then went on to work in a kindergarten prorgam before becoming a school age head teacher. Teaching students of varied ages prepared me for what was to come. Following the birth of my first child, I established and operated an independent child care and early learning initiative, where I worked with many children and their families, developing trusting relationships that aided in the development of my students' love of learning. From there, I tutored children as well as mentored teachers while furthering my own education. Then COVID struck, and I made the decision to homeschool my children. I am presently homeschooling my fourth, seventh, and ninth graders. Being a homeschooling mom has been the most enjoyable - yet challenging - endeavour I've ever undertaken! While I miss teaching in large educational settings, I am grateful for the new opportunities that homeschooling provides for me and my family. I continue to offer my work here on TPT because I am passionate about developing materials for others in the education field. I intend to continue building meaningful connections in the teacher world as I had done prior to COVID shifting the trajectory of my professional journey. :)

I employ a hands-on approach to learning while also embracing the use of technology to increase student learning, but I believe in "Maslow before Bloom." I believe that children of all ages and stages must have their basic needs met before they can fully embrace academic learning. As a former team teacher, I truly enjoyed learning alongside my colleagues! I hold a strong community-oriented mindset that motivates me to actively seek out like-minded, goal-driven educators in order to establish and maintain a strong, supportive teaching network.

Married my college boyfriend, had 3 amazing children, taught for 15 years before returning to school, then the pandemic happened and now I'm a homeschooling mom. Life is such an adventure!
