It can later be “performed” throughout the year when there are those spare minutes to reinforce vocabulary, cooperation, camaraderie, and the joy of learnin

ASL Manual Alphabet

Children appear to acquire alphabetic knowledge in a sequence that begins with letter names, letter shapes and letter sounds. American Sign Language is an effective teaching tool that can be used to enhance early literacy skills and a fun way to increase alphabet knowledge in young children. Since many of the ASL hand symbols resemble the shape of letters in the written alphabet, learning the ASL manual alphabet can give children a boost in their learning with this new skill set.

Let's make American Sign Language fun! It is very easy to keep students engaged when it comes to teaching ASL. With most High School students being obsessed with music, I thought it would be great to have them sign a song of their choice. Students usually already have headphones, so it makes the assignment that much easier. For this assignment, I told the student to sign about a minute and a half to two minutes of a song. The kids LOVED this!!
