Yellowstone National Park Calculating Distance and Time
This activity allows students to practice using a map to calculate distance and time traveled in the park. Students will have to get familiar with the map to make with a unit rate and convert minutes to hours.These are actual calculations I did daily when traveling in the park. This activity is fun from home but also great practice when you are at the park.

What a fun way to teach proportional reasoning that applies to the real world? Look no further. Take a dive into Yellowstone National Park and learn more about their animals. Design a Dream Vacation
Students will determine 10 of their bucket-list vacation destinations. They will use their knowledge of map scales and proportions to determine the actual distance between locations and the total distance of their trip. This could be extended by determining the cost of gas for their trip. It can also be coupled with a geography discussion. Great for a review, sub plan or assessment.
