Gravity Lab: Calculating Distance in Space
In this lab, students start by measuring how far they can jump on Earth, and then calculate how far they could jump on the different planets and Earth's moon, based on the amount of gravity present on each body. This was a great way to demonstrate the effects of gravity, while also reinforcing the 6th grade math concept of division of decimals. All steps of the scientific method are included, along with a full rubric to assess students' learning.

In this Earth Science activity, students will gain a better understanding of what gases the atmosphere is made out of. Students will need to work some math problems out, converting percents and decimal places to determine ppm, parts per million. Fractional Number Lines - Fractions, Mixed Numbers & Decimals - Level 4 - FREE
Number lines - one step in difficulty from Level 3.
Number lines begin at whole numbers - not zero. Hence, the student can find improper fractions at any point by using a whole number location on the number line - and the student is off to the races.
If students are only given discrete mixed numbers, proper fractions, improper fractions and decimals, then they 'float' in isolation. These number lines connect the elements in an application setting.
