Taking Flight with Paper Airplanes

In this lesson students learn about the motion and design of paper airplanes. They learn about the following science topics: force, aerodynamics, drag, thrust, gravity, and lift. As an introduction to flight students learn about the Wright Brothers and discuss how airplanes have changed over time and the impact the invention of the airplane had on society as a whole. Then students begin to explore with paper airplanes, leading to many questions about how to build them to get the longest flight p

Project based learning with model rocketry. I use ESTES Rocketry products for this assignment. The ESTES Model Rocketry Technical Manual (roughly 10 pages) is reviewed in large group first. Then students can take an open note test either on paper or edulastic (both included). I require all students to make an 80 or higher to participate and the rules agreement must be completed. In order to facilitate learning and guide students through their group's build of a model rocket I use a detailed ru
