TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a public school teacher in NYC. During my 17 years of teaching my courses have included U.S. History, 9th and 10th grade Global History, Regents Review courses, Government, Economics, Intro to Law, Psychology, Sociology, Multicultural Studies,Current Events -- pretty much everything but basket weaving:)

MY TEACHING STYLE

My number 1 goal each and every year is to make true connections with my students. It is only then that I can ascertain what they need most. Sometimes it's not content, but rather life skills or how to approach life in a more positive manner. When planning units and specific lessons I try to balance academic rigor with engagement through simulations, controversial discussion and connecting with their interests and prior knowledge. Also, laughter, nothing wakes up a sleepy brain better than a good chuckle :)

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

One of my proudest moments as a teacher was when I taught a NYS Regents review class to students who had failed this exam prior, many of them multiple times. At the end of the semester each and every student who actually showed up a minimum of 3-4 days a week passed!!! As for awards, I have received a few from my principal, but I'm not really as advocate. I don't even like the Oscars and Emmys!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor's of Arts in Business Management, a Masters in Education, and a Court Reporting Associates Certificate (my prior career)
