This is a simple fill in chart for students as they are observing different rocks and minerals. I just started the 4th grade unit on Rocks and there are just so many possibilities.

Geologic Timeline Activity -Students create timeline using adding maching tape.
For this activity I use rolls of adding machine tape- you need something at least 460 + a little extra cm long. Students use a meter stick to mark off TODAY. Then, leaving the meter stick in 1 spot, they mark off each of the periods at the correct measurements.
Students then add in important events in geologic time onto the timelines.
The result is a LONG roll of geologic time! A great VISUAL to the hard to conceptualize geologic timeline.

A fantastic lab for evolution! To me, evolution is a difficult unit for students to have real lab experiences. You can study natural selection through several investigations, but few allow us to take evidence on patterns found in the past. This investigation challenges students to evaluate 6 hominid skills through anatomy observation and measurement using a simple ruler allowing patterns in evolution to emerge.
